  • apply winter mulches to bulbs, perennials, and strawberries after the ground freezes
  • use fertilizer to melt ice or use "kitty litter" or sand for traction
  • plant balled Christmas trees, or wait until March
  • plant overlooked spring bulbs during thaw or keep in refrigerator
  • feed birds and wildlife. Provide thawed water.
  • reapply deer repellants
  • reapply antidesiccants during a warm period, if needed
  • get catalogs; order seeds
  • inspect stored bulbs, roots, winter vegetables for rot or desiccation
 
  • winged yellow ants, only if weather mild
  • ants
  • house plant problems: environmental, low light, insects and mites
  • ice and snow weight damage to plants
  • blooming witchhazel and Christmas rose (Hellebore) bloom (late in the month)
  • Overwintering insects (brown marmorated stink bug, boxelder bug, Asian lady beetle, Western conifer seed bug) that emerge and crawl or fly around indoors.
